Group 3 Blog Presentation
I am really surprised to see how much I enjoyed doing this group assignment. I had a really good time working with my group and seeing how the other groups demonstrated their chapter and topics. I was anxious about this class when I realized we worked in groups and presented but after seeing the other two groups present and presenting myself, I feel way more comfortable interacting with others and working together. I also feel a bit more confident that I can do good in this class. Group 1 did an excellent job presenting their chapter and providing precise definitions. Group 2 was effective in demonstrating their chapter of communicating in groups and I was very engaged with the whole presentation. Group 3, my group did an incredible job at presenting and creating our presentation. I am super happy with the results of our PowerPoint and proud of everyone.
Group 1 had chapter 3 and were explaining intercultural communications. I appreciated the first slide of group 1 that was talking about culture and communication. It was a welcoming introduction to the chapter as well as a refresher to the meaning of both culture and communication. That slide gave a very well detailed definition of both words. I wasn’t very informed about the differences between race and ethnicity and learned about both of the words through the slides Christopher and Fiona made. I agree with what Fiona mentions about people might differ from each other widely in how much they identify with their ethnicity. I often see people who share the same ethnicity but they both are not as equally passionate and enthusiastic about it. This affects how they go about things in the world and their personality’s. After the slide on religion, I feel more comfortable on my understanding of religion. This slide was super informative and helpful if you do not really understand what religion truly is. Although, I wished that there would’ve been some examples of different religions just to get an even clearer understanding. Chronemics was an interesting slide to learn about. First, I didn’t even know about the word chronemics, so know I gained some education about the word. I have never considered how time can have a role in different social contexts and among different cultures. I appreciate that the slide contained examples of what chronemics could be. It was very visually appealing to see a change of how the slides were constructed when seeing the slide on “seven dimensions of cultural differences”. I liked that the slide had different colors and a completely new format compared to the other slides. I enjoyed that their conclusion to their chapter had a video to close the presentation.
Group 2 had chapter 9 and were demonstrating the different ways groups communicate. Their introduction was straight to the point and gave the audience a small glance of what they were going to discuss which I appreciated. I liked that they used a good number of pictures in each slide that matched with the topics they talked about. Joslyn did a fantastic job teaching family connection pattern theories. I learned and better understood how different families communicate. I was even thinking about how my own family communicates. She also did a very good job keeping me engaged in the presentation with the videos. I feel that “characteristics of healthy groups” was one of the most informational topics talked about in this chapter. I enjoyed discovering what makes a good healthy group as I didn’t know so many factors contributed to a healthy group. Edis did a super excellent job when he was talking about the forming stage in modern media. I liked how he gave a description of each of the shows and told us how the groups were in the beginning of the show and at the end when they started getting to know each other. He also did a good job with the examples of storming and finding familiar shows to relate to the topic. Edis also had a well-constructed slide on norming and gave a really detailed definition and examples on it. Additionally, his slides were my favorite in this whole presentation, and I can sense that he put a great amount of effort in them and in trying to keep the audience engaged. I really liked the conclusion was very long and wordy, but it was also very informational and needed. It was the last reminder of all the topics discussed on the presentation.
Lastly, group 3 which I was a part of. I am honestly shocked with how much I enjoyed working in a group especially with people I don’t know. I had a good time talking to my group and got more comfortable doing group presentations. They were all super supportive of each other and helped when me when I had questions about the project. I think my group did a fantastic job demonstrating chapter 10 which was Leadership and Problem Solving. I especially appreciate our group leader Tereza, she was very super supportive of the group and made sure we were keeping up with our parts of the presentation. She added a good number of videos to the PowerPoint, which I think elevated the whole presentation. We all worked very well with each other and got the job done. I think there were a couple of things I could’ve done to improve my part of the presentation such as adding more pictures and making it more visually appealing to the audience. I also want to try new formats next time as I thought my slides were quite bland and boring. I would also like to use less words when explaining my topic to make sure I am not boring the audience and keeping them engaged. I think Yohana did a really great job switching it up and making a slide with a different format then the rest. She was very creative in how she displayed her information, and I would like to do the same next time we have a group presentation. The whole experience of making the presentation and bonding with my group members was really intimidating at first but it turned out to be a nice experience.
Yea!! I am so glad this was a great experience. Very nice reflection and writing.
