Blog post theme presntation

The first presentation that was done was group 3 good eating. This topic it was interesting to me because I learned more about the importance of having good eating habits the presentation explained how good eating habits like providing essential nutrients, supporting proper body function, and maintaining a healthy weight, having healthy habits can reduce risk for chronic diseases. Not only is good eating beneficial physically but it is also great for one’s mental well being.  I agree with Yohana slide that speaks about what drives us to eat. I believe all these reasons are important however I would not necessarily list them in this order. Number 5 which is “habits” would go higher up on my list as opposed to Emotional comfort. Slide 4 which is also by Yohana speaks of the importance of eating different type of food on the food pallet. I also agree with this statement because if you are not eating a balanced meal tour not necessary eating healthy. For example, if you decide to eat more meats and protein as opposed to carbs and natural sugar, your cholesterol could increase leading to serious health problems and vice versa. Furthermore, it’s not all about eating healthy, exercise is very important in this balance as shown by Tereza in her slides. We can easily see that while eating the proper foods and meals, without exercise and movement in the body its worthless. In Tereza slides she speaks about easy ways to exercise and move your body. The one I can relate to the most would by far be Weight Training as I tend to go to the gym very often. From my knowledge America was one of the unhealthiest countries in the world, leading with the highest diabetes rate compared to any other country. While researching we realized that in the last few years eating healthy and working out has become more popular in the United States. This only shows that eating healthy is part of new movements started by newer generations like millennials and Gen Z. 42% of Americans are still eating low quality meals which is damaging their health’s which shows that 58% of the American population has started to eat healthier. Our also emphasized that apart from diets being good for your body it’s also good on the mind and soul, by bringing people together and making memories with loved ones.

Group 2’s Presentation was about self-care. This was a very interest topic to me because I learned the actual meaning of self-care. Self-care means something we do for ourselves solely for taking care of our minds and body. I can relate this topic my groups topic on eating healthy as that is one thing people do to take care of themselves. Without self-care many people can tend to feel tired, stressed and can even cause anxiety. Sleeping habits are also very important and is something of interest to me. Group 2 speaks about how the average person should get about 7 to 9 hours of sleep. This opened my eyes to the fact that there is only 24 hours a day and almost a third of day should go to simply rest. Many people including myself do not get the recommended amount of sleep which tends to cause burnouts and sluggish performance in various activities. Group 2 then goes on to speak about how some people tend to indulge in environmental self-care. In my studies and personal life, I have learned that one must absorb Vitamin D and that the best way to receive this vitamin is through the sun. Some peoples mind tends to take them to the beach where they can hear the waves crash on to the beach and the salty ocean breeze fill up their lungs. This helps many people feel at peace with themselves. which is very important for mental health purposes. The environment and nature are available to everyone, and we should take more time to appreciate our surroundings. One type of Self care that I have never considered would be meditation. Group 2 mentions meditation as a form of training for your brain. They stated that it helps control stress and emotions and can even help with chronic pains. I would like to consider spending time in the environment is a form of meditation as it calms me down. I have also learned that MDC offers multiple resources such as counselors to help students going through issues with mental health etc. I will be looking into these resources provided for me in case I need them.

The last presentation was group 1. This presentation was great, it opened my eyes to what paying it forward means. It explains the concept of when someone does a good deed for another which can lead to a chain of kindness. Its good to realize that instead of doing something for an action in return its feels better just to do from the kindness of one’s heart. The section about the movement’s societal contributions taught me about fostering kindness and empathy which is when people experience or see acts of kindness and inspires them to extend the same kindness to others, I never really thought about it that way but I do believe it’s true since I’ve experienced it myself when I’ve seen others do kind gestures it has motivated me to do kind things to my friends and family. I also agree with the fact that if we all come together and support each other through tough times like weather crisis etc. it can help us build a resilient community. I wasn’t aware that there was a holiday for paying it forward I will be sure to do kind gestures to make someone’s day. The video that was showed was very touching seeing how one’s person good deed impacted the fire fighters leading them to also make a difference in the waitress’s life by bringing light to her father’s disease causing them to raise money for his illness. This video shows how doing a good gesture for someone is rewarding. The ending where all group members stated how they will pay it forward was a great addition, not only did they talk about this topic, but it showed that it motivated them to make good deeds themselves.

In conclusion these theme presentations where eye opening and taught me a lot about Mental health, self-care, one’s wellbeing and how kindness can change one’s life. I enjoyed helping create the Good Eating presentation and collaborating with my group members. Seeing how helping one another can lead to creating amazing presentations is always enjoyable.
